This policy covers Welcome TV: Guest Screen, the Android TV app (package in.thewasim.welcome), and the Welcome TV host dashboard at tv.thewasim.com. Both are run by Wasim Iqbal (The Wasim), Gurugram, India. Questions about privacy: [email protected].

What the TV app sends

The app talks only to the Welcome TV server at tv.thewasim.com, over HTTPS. It sends:

  • a random device key and password that the app creates itself the first time it starts. They are used only to sign the TV in, and are not a hardware ID;
  • the TV’s model name (for example “D00”);
  • the time the TV was last seen;
  • the six-character pairing code, while the host is linking the TV.

That’s all. The app doesn’t collect an advertising ID, location, contacts, or anything from the microphone or camera, and it doesn’t record anything typed on the TV. It contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising tools, and it shows no ads.

What the TV shows

The TV receives and shows the property details the host entered in the dashboard (the property name, Wi-Fi name and password, house rules, times, photos and contact details), plus the first names and dates of guests staying around today. It keeps the latest copy on the TV so it keeps working offline. Guests don’t sign in and don’t give any information to the TV.

What the host dashboard stores

The dashboard stores the host’s account (email and name, or a Google sign-in), their properties, the calendar links they connect (Airbnb, Booking.com or VRBO export links), and bookings with guests’ first names. Hosts enter this information themselves, and it is used only to show the welcome screen on their own TVs.

Sharing and storage

We don’t sell this information or share it with third parties. It is stored on our own server in Mumbai, India, behind Cloudflare.

Deleting your data

  • Unlinking a TV in the dashboard detaches it from the property.
  • Deleting a property removes that property’s data.
  • To delete your account and all of its data, email [email protected].
  • Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the TV.

Welcome TV is not directed at children.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
